HAVING a meal in relaxing, serene surrounds is easy when one is sitting in a bistro tucked away on the edge of the Glen Iris Public Golf Course.
But ensuring that the food and service are as good as the view is no mean feat.
The Iris Bar and Bistro manages to combine all three with ease, and the result is a truly pleasurable dining experience.
Patrons can choose from a lunch/light snacks menu during the daytime, with an extensive appetisers, mains and dessert menu also available.
The barbecued pork spare ribs, $18, were a lesson in simple food that is full of flavour.
Tender, oven baked pork literally falls from the bones of the rib rack, which is smothered in a sweet, yet smoky, barbecue sauce.
The attention to detail, even on something as small as the salad garnish on this dish, seemed to be more worthy of a fine dining restaurant.
The lunch menu also has a range of sandwich-style items to choose from, including the Mediterranean toasted Turkish – $10.50.
A delightful mix of ham, melted cheese, sun dried tomato, olives, feta and roasted capsicum makes for a rustic surprise, rounded off with a serving off chips and salad.
The wine list fits in well with the relaxed theme of the venue, featuring a range of local and international labels, while a selection of draught beers is also available from the bar.
The service, while relaxed and friendly, is also incredibly attentive and the food came out promptly, rounding off the perfect dining experience.
And with meals like teriyaki salmon, fillet mignon and lamb two take on the main course menu, this is one venue we will be sure to visit for dinner sometime soon.
