IF you have been living under a rock, you might not be aware that supermodel Jerry Hall is in town for a Perth-only season of The Graduate, now playing at His Majesty’s Theatre.
At the opening night on Saturday, the atmosphere was electric as even “A-listers” used to regularly rubbing shoulders with the who’s who, were blown away by not only Hall’s star-powered presence, but the high-end production of the play itself.
At the glittering after-party everyone from Julie Bishop to Jon English to Melanie Greensmith let their hair down and indulged in some back slapping.
It seems The Graduate has become more than just a play for the local arts scene – it is about cementing Perth’s reputation as a capital city to watch.
While we can scrutinise the work of Tourism WA after the failed Red Bull Air Race and Taxi ad campaign, there is much going on in Perth to celebrate and be excited by.
Next week continues the emphasis on world-class “Perth only” events when the Perth Fashion Festival kicks off in style with a VIP cocktail party hosted by international celebrity photographer Russell James.
Perth-born James is not only a coup for the festival, but a representation of the hard work of those who have got the event to a point where it is being taken so seriously.
Marquee events by Ruth Tarvydas and Wheels & Dollbaby may be the stalwarts of the festival, but the work coming from the up-and-coming WA designers is truly exceptional and the way PFF is mentoring their success is something to be proud of.
If this is not enough fabulousness to take your mind off what is happening in Melbourne, we are only a stone’s throw away from PIAF’s much- anticipated 2011 line-up, and one of the most action-packed concert seasons ever seen in the West. FYI – start saving now.
