TEACHING cricket skills and confidence to children with a disability is the aim of the new cricket program Cricket Champs at the Ardross Junior Cricket Club this season.
With the help of the WACA and the Recreation and Sports Network, Cricket Champs will run every Friday afternoon for 12 weeks from 4.30-6pm, starting on October 29.
Club president Justin Sambell said boys and girls aged between six and 16 with a disability could take part in the program and siblings up to 10 years were also invited join in.
“It is a great way to get children who would not normally play mainstream sports involved in community cricket. It is a chance for them to grow in confidence and perhaps realise they have the skills to play some mainstream sports,” he said.
This is the first year Cricket Champs will run.
Anyone interested in the program is invited to attend the Have a Go Day on September 19 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, followed by a sausage sizzle.
